Good to to you all,

Here’s wishing you guys are doing super duper, and keeping the bad guys at bay online.

And as always, there some interesting tidbits in the world of security + some AI cool stuff (It’s just nuts where we are going in the world AI…)

=================

If you haven’t heard about the recent Change Healthcare breach, it’s widely regarded as the most significant medical data breach in history. It has affected an astonishing 190 million individuals in the United States, potentially impacting the majority of the US population for life. Even if you haven’t directly interacted with UnitedHealth, there’s a high probability that Change Healthcare handled your data due to its substantial size. The stolen data includes patients’ health records, billing and insurance details, diagnoses, medications, test results, and more.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is warning folks about a significant rise in gambling-like online job scams, known as “task scams,” that draw victims (people desperate for a new job) into earning cash through repetitive tasks, with the promises of earning more if they deposit their own money – but its a COMPLETE SCAM.

If anyone contacts you for a job offer vis WhatsApp, trust me: its 99.9% a complete fraud.

Here is a similar story from the FTC explaining this disgusting scam preying on vulnerable job seekers:

Unfortunately, this is also one of the downsides of AI that we have to get used to today: fraudulent job applicants using AI to swap their face out in realtime on a video call with a fake profile pic. Nuts

Apple Intelligence – its privacy-first approach to AI- is now available on newer Apple devices, and it’s also synced with ChatGPT for specific prompts that Apple itself cannot answer.

Unlike many other AI systems that send your data to the cloud for analysis, Apple Intelligence does most of its heavy lifting right on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac., so your personal information never leaves your device. When a user makes a request, Apple Intelligence checks whether it can be processed on the device itself. For more intricate requests, it may call out to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, which extends the privacy and security of your iPhone into the cloud. With Private Cloud Compute, only the data relevant to your request is processed on Apple servers before being deleted. And if there is a very tough question Apple can’t answer, it will ask you for permission to check with ChatGPT for an answer.

For those using Windows, you of course also have Microsoft Copilot – an AI assistant available on Windows and in Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.

Or simply open up a browser and go to gemini.google.com, or chatgpt.com

Its all great tech, but as always, even and especially with AI do NOT input any sensitive personal data you would not want to be be used by these tech companies to train/ fine tune their AI models, or even stolen!

An interesting online resource belong you make a security plan for how to protect yourself, depending on the type of software/hardware you use, and what your goal is when going online e.g. hiding your identity, avoid posing sites, protect financial data etc etc. Its worth checking out!

Google is using artificial intelligence to power a new Chrome scam protection feature that analyzes brands and the intent of pages as you browse the web. This feature is believed to help the scam detection service detect the brand and purpose (intent) of a webpage, making it easier to identify potential scams. It works on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Very cool!

Protect your phone with Android’s 3 new theft detection features right now. They’ll keep your sensitive info private if attackers steal your device while it’s unlocked. The features many Android owners can activate now are Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock.

Keeping with all good new features coming out of Google these days, it has introduced a new Android feature called “identity check.” This feature locks sensitive device and account settings behind a biometric lock, such as your fingerprint or face scan, when you’re outside a trusted location like home or work. The idea is to prevent thieves from taking control of your unlocked but stolen device.

It’s very similar to what Apple also turned on last year, but so far limited to Google Pixel devices running Android 15 and Samsung Galaxy phones running One UI 7.

Still very cool though 🙂

Check out this video on OpenAi’s Sora to see where we are already in the world pf AI video creation. Basically Sora is able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and accurate details of the subject & background. It will blow your mind, and we are still moving forward in leaps & bounds every few months!
